FACILITATORS FOR “IDOL KO SI NANAY” ROLLOUT UNDERGO 2-DAY TRAINING

“Idol ko si Nanay” Training for Facilitators

Forty-seven participants from the 22 barangays of Manolo Fortich—composed of Barangay Health Workers (BHW), Child Development Workers (CDW), and newly appointed Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS)—underwent a two-day training for the implementation of the "Idol ko si Nanay" rollout. The training was held at the Bahay Tulugan, Norminco Compound, Barangay Tankulan, on May 21–22, 2025.

The "Idol ko si Nanay" rollout will be facilitated by a representative BHW, CDW, and BNS from each barangay. It targets mothers of children aged 0–2 years, particularly lactating mothers and those with malnourished children.

This initiative acknowledges the prevalence of malnutrition in the municipality and underscores the role of maternal practices and knowledge in shaping the nutritional and overall health outcomes of children—especially during the critical first 1,000 days of life. "Kani sila atong gipang train, maoy magtudlo sa atong mga inahan, sama sa inahan sa mga malnourished nga bata, sa mga buros, sa mga lactating mothers kung unsa ang sakto nga nutrition para malikayan ang ginatawag nato nga stunting or putot para sa iyahang edad, ug wasting - gaan para sa iyahang katas-on," stated Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Rikkie Mae Lucero.

The program is spearheaded by the Municipal Nutrition Office in collaboration with the Municipal Health Office and the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) unit under the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office. In partnership with the Barangay Councils of the 22 barangays, the MNO aims to impart research-based nutrition education, healthcare guidance, and practical strategies to mothers to promote optimal childhood development.

Mary Lou Villegas, who works at the Child Development Center (CDC) in Barangay Alae, expressed her enthusiasm for learning and implementing the "Idol ko si Nanay" program. She believes it can have a lasting impact in addressing malnutrition in the municipality. “This training will give us more skills and knowledge, and support to become a responsible parent to our children and our learners. Naa pa untay more trainings and strategies especially sa pagpadako sa mga bata, sa health and nutrition and kanang emergencies bitaw especially og magsakit ang mga bata. Unsa atong kinahanglan o angay buhaton kay dili man sa tanang panahon nga ready ta,” says Villegas.

The "Idol ko si Nanay" program was carefully developed to address the multifaceted issues of maternal and child health in Manolo Fortich. It emphasizes equipping mothers with the information and skills needed to make informed decisions about their children's health, in response to the growing need for community-based nutritional interventions.
