29 REGISTERED SENIOR CITIZENS IN MANOLO FORTICH RECEIVE CASH GIFT FROM NCSC
Expanded Centenarians Act of 2016
The first payout of the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2016, also known as Republic Act 11982, marks a significant milestone for the senior citizens of Manolo Fortich. A total of 29 registered senior citizens received a cash gift of ₱10,000, personally handed to them by personnel from the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) on April 14, 2025, at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Phoebe Cau.
The Expanded Centenarians Act amends the original Centenarians Act (RA 10868), which previously granted ₱100,000 to Filipino citizens who reached 100 years old. With the passage of the amendment on March 17, 2024, senior citizens who turn 80, 85, 90, and 95 years old are now also entitled to receive ₱10,000. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to recognizing and supporting the elderly population for their lifelong contributions to society.
One of the beneficiaries, Ignacio Lanticse, an 80-year-old former instructor at Holy Cross High School from Barangay Damilag, expressed his gratitude. “Dako kayo ni og tabang kay kaming mga senior citizen, wa naman mi saktong pangita. Dako akong pasalamat sa senior citizen commission kay wala namo damha nga karong panahona naka dawat mi aning 10,000 [pesos]. Dako kayo among kalipay hilabi na sa among katuigon tungod pod kay Holy Week man karon, so kung naay mga bisita sa among mga apo naa mi ika tanyag sa ila, e-snack naman lang,” stated Lanticse.
OSCA Head Phoebe Cau also explained the process for availing the cash gift.“So ani, mag-apply sila, then naay mga forms dinhi among e-disseminate sa ila, then they’re going to have to complete the requirements kay naay mga supporting papers ani for the application form nga among ihatag from the National [NCSC],” Cau explained.
To qualify for the cash gift, senior citizens must register and complete the necessary requirements. Applications must be submitted prior to their 80th, 85th, 90th, or 95th birthdays to ensure eligibility.
